General Course Description:

GLY 2010 “Physical Geology” is a three credit-hour course that is one of the College’s Natural Science offerings. The science of Geology encompasses the study of surficial and internal materials and processes, occurring and operating on the earth, both today and in the past.

Course Materials and Resources
You have four (4) resources to help you prepare for the evaluation

1) The Tapes
The primary source of information for this course is  “Earth Revealed”, a series of 26 taped episodes specifically designed for television, produced by the Southern California Consortium, with major funding for production provided by the Annenberg/CPB Project. Each televised program runs about 28 minutes. The 26-episode series documents evidence of geological principles and was filmed at geographically diverse sites. In these tapes, emphasis is placed on the role of plate tectonics, the most comprehensive model for explaining earth processes and evolution.

2) The Text:
Our text, “Essentials of Geology (7th Ed.)”, by Frederick Lutgens and Edward Tarbuck, was selected to be used in conjunction with the “Earth Revealed” tape series.

3) The Net Notes
We have developed a series of notes available on the internet at the following URL: http://dept. sfcollege.edu/jklein or alternatively: dept.sfcollege.edu/jklein. Click on the TV course Icon. These notes should help with both the essay questions and the multiple choice questions

4) The instructors
As stated earlier, one of us will be available every Tuesday night from 7-8:45 p.m. to answer your questions. Consult our schedule for availability at other times.
